ENCORE OF AN ICON: THE TIDES SOUTH BEACH RETURNS TO GLAMOUR
--Much-anticipated opening unveils designer Kelly Wearstler's chic transformation and the flagship hotel for The Tides brand--
December 6, 2007 (Miami Beach, FL) - Miami tides are changing. Kor Hotel Group proudly announces the re-opening of The Tides South Beach. As the flagship home for its new brand, The Tides, the iconic hotel recently re-launched with a sophisticated look that is certain to redefine luxury travelers' expectations of South Beach. Restored to an unprecedented level of glamour by acclaimed interior designer Kelly Wearstler, the historic gem reclaims its legacy as the "Diva of Ocean Drive." Final design elements will be completed in January 2008.
"Miami's historic South Beach is the perfect setting for The Tides' flagship property," said Brad Korzen, CEO and Founder of Kor Hotel Group. "With its vibrant cultural environment and international populace, it's one of the most exciting and stylish destinations in the world. The Tides South Beach has it all, stellar location, trendsetting design, a highly acclaimed restaurant and personalized amenities that will please our guests - it exemplifies the brand's sophisticated coastal style and complements perfectly Miami's high-paced lifestyle."
Kelly Wearstler has applied her creative touch to the hotel's 45 ocean-view guest suites and grand public spaces. Each of the hotel's suites has been re-envisioned with custom designed treasures hand selected by Wearstler. Signature penthouse suites enhance this theme with one-of-a-kind vintage elements, such as credenzas of stone, and original artwork. The lobby features 1940s high-backed "Senator" chairs from Milan and a 1920s gold leaf wall hanging from Europe. In the hotel's dining room, two distinctive vintage brass palm tree sculptures create additional allure.
"In re-designing The Tides South Beach, I paid homage to the history of this amazing landmark, carefully respecting Miami's culture and Art Deco roots. My inspiration for the property was 21st-century luxury juxtaposed with casual elegance, while honoring the city's inherent beach front spirit," said designer Kelly Wearstler of her work at The Tides.
A Sensual Glamour
The Tides' legendary lobby embodies a new grandeur, with innovative applications of stone, gold-leaf and leather accenting a central lounge area. The elegantly appointed Martini Bar commands an equally prominent location, allowing guests a seamless transition between the bar and lobby lounge area. At the new, highly acclaimed La Marea restaurant, Executive Chef Pietro Rota (formerly of trendy Il Sole in West Hollywood, CA) presents dishes of only the freshest seasonal ingredients on his Italian-Mediterranean seafood menu. Since its summer 2007 launch, the venue has enjoyed great success and is already a local favorite for breakfast, lunch, tapas and dinner.
Outside, La Marea's elegant front terrace now features accent pieces and custom furnishings, including Kelly Wearstler's signature "Hall Porter Chairs," which frame the entryway into the grand lobby and provide guests with functional, yet stylish options for enjoying ocean breezes and culinary delights.
In January the exclusive Coral Bar will open, providing twilight cocktails and seasonal culinary selections in an intimate, social setting. Outside, the pool terrace will be transformed into a lush enclosure of serenity dotted with Wearstler's trademark cabanas.
A Tidal Flow of Amenities
The Tides' Personal Assistant Program offers guests advanced and intuitive service from professionals trained by Robert Watson, founder and president of "The Guild of Professional English Butlers."
